Holiday market opens at Queens County Farm Museum

The Island Now

Kick off the holiday season at the Queens County Farm Museum’s holiday market, which opens on Saturday, Dec. 1 with a rich assortment of Christmas trees, wreaths, poinsettias and unique holiday gifts.

Shoppers can pick from traditional games, toys and hand-made stuffed animals for the lil’ farmer in every family or choose from a selection of Queens-made gifts to help make the holiday cozy.

The farm features its own yarn, a Cotswald Merino wool blend, hand-dyed by Queens Farm’s own farmers using the farm’s natural dye plants including marigold, fennel, and indigo.

It also sells small-batch herbal teas grown and dried at the farm along with wildflower honey from its own hives.  Sales at the farm’s holiday market help support the organization’s acclaimed education programs.

“The Farm is a magical place especially during the winter months”, said Jennifer Walden Weprin, executive director of the Queens County Farm Museum.  “The air is crisp and the grounds are perfect for winter strolls and snowman building. You can enjoy hot cocoa while you find the perfect holiday gift or Christmas tree.”

The Queens County Farm Museum is located at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park.

The farm’s holiday market is open through Sunday, Dec. 23, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve Day for those last-minute trees and gifts.  Prices for gift items start at $5 and $40 for Christmas trees.

Admission to the grounds at the Queens Farm is free for individuals and families, except during special events as noted on the farm’s website.  Group visits require advance registration and group admission fees apply.

The farm’s livestock, including sheep, goats, hens, alpaca and the steers Jethro and Dexter, are on the grounds all year.  Neighborhood parking is available.  For more information to plan your visit go to queensfarm.org or call 718-347-3276.
