Herricks students performed in and around the community.

Under the direction of James Ludwig, Herricks Middle School’s Community Choir performed a concert of children’s music for the staff and students of Harbor Day Care in the Auditorium of the Community Center. Students sang songs including “She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain,” “Jingle Bells” and “The Littlest Worm” as their young audience participated through echoing, clapping and singing. Community Choir is one of two ensembles in the middle school’s after school choir program, open to all students of Herricks Middle School.

“We are proud to be able to bring our Herricks performing ensembles out into the community,” said Catherine Fish, high school orchestra teacher. “For us, it is a wonderful opportunity to practice the actual skills of public performance, while for our audiences it is a chance to hear high quality live music, which they otherwise might not experience in their daily lives.”

On Dec. 21, the All-County Band and Orchestra students, directed by Mark Bligh and Stephanie Lanuto, performed some festive holidays songs in the hallway of Denton Avenue as faculty members and students were arriving. This has become an annual tradition for the students to perform the day before the holiday vacation.
