Herricks Model UN attends virtual conference

Herricks students attended the 23rd annual Washington Area Model United Nations Conference during the weekend of March 4.

The 29 Herricks High School delegates participated in a total of 22 different committees that fit within general assembly, specialized, historical and crisis categories.

The event featured a range of themes, such as the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee’s discussions of LGBT rights, a Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and committees based on classic novels.

The final virtual conference for the school year, with the exception of Herricks Model United Nations’ own Conference in May, was extremely successful and fun for all the students.

While all the delegates were engaged and active in debate all weekend, many students were specifically recognized for their actions by their chairs. Stella Chu received a verbal commendation for representing Kim Kardashian in the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General.

Honorable mentions were presented to Chloe Chang, who represented Canada in the Special, Political, and Decolonization Committee and Olivia Berg, who represented Canadian Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Bouchard in the Global Health in Communism Committee. Stephanie Chan was named Best Delegate for her representation of Canada in the Decolonization of the Caribbean 1960 Committee.
