Herricks board does duty hiring detective

The Island Now

Certainly the NHP Herald Courier is free to express any opinion, yet last week’s editorial crossed a line.

The comments,” Still we find the hiring of a low rent private investigator, a heavy handed approach” followed by “Do the numbers justify the hiring of even a low rent private eye?” are an abusive slander, particularly when the person was named.

Leaving aside the editorial excuses and sanctimony, the core issue is direct and simple. Are some parents gaming the system in order to enroll their children in the Herricks Schools?

Yea or nay! If so, that is theft, notwithstanding whatever pious intentions might exist to improve the circumstances of their children.

Such behavior is a clear violation of the conveniently ignored 8th Commandment and depending upon the severity of the theft, a felony punishable by law.

Your remark, “We assume the children are coming from poorer districts where their schools lack the resources Herricks employs,” true or not, is irrelevant.

Also the perverse logic behind “We confess that we are impressed that the parents of illegal children are involved enough to care to want their children to attend school in Herricks,” is breathtaking.

That remark goes to the heart of the matter and exposes the predictable thinking of the ‘do gooder’ left where well meaning intentions always trumps fidelity to principle.

The core reason the poor are poor is not because the rich and rich.

Rather it’s because most of the poor invariably have bad attitudes and worse behavior leading them to make the wrong decisions over, over and over again in their lives, resulting in chronic failure.

Theft is an attribute of low character, excuse mongering aside, and one that is readily passed on to children who are quick to grasp what is going on.

Further, the sly implication that the Herricks Board and administrators are mean-spirited people because they intend to enforce the residency rules is unbecoming if not contemptible.

In fact, they would be grossly derelict in their obligations to the homeowners/taxpayers of Herricks, to whom they owe their primary loyalty, if they ignored this issue.
