Tony Traguardo takes you ‘Back to the Garden’ for Woodstock’s 50th Anniversary. This program is based, in part, on legendary New York disc jockey and author Pete Fornatale’s book ‘The Story of Woodstock: Back to the Garden.’ This multimedia event outlines the events that led to, and occurred during, the weekend when over half a million people gathered in upstate New York for the now legendary concert festival that has come to be known simply as “Woodstock.” For America’s counter-culture youth, Woodstock became a symbol of more than just sex, drugs and rock and roll – it was a huge declaration and celebration of peace, love, and a new way of living. Monday, Aug. 12: Sports films with Professor Val Franco: ‘White Men Can’t Jump’
Two basketball hustlers, one white (Woody Harrelson) and one black (Wesley Snipes), team up to con their way across the courts of Los Angeles. Director Ron Shelton also scripted. Starts at 7:15 p.m.

Soundswap Rock film series: ‘Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii:’ This concert documentary film, directed by Adrian Maiben, features the English rock group Pink Floyd performing to an empty Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy in 1971. Footage filmed in a Paris television studio the following December was added for the original 1972 release. The film was re-released in 1974 with additional studio material of the band working on their landmark album, “The Dark Side of the Moon.” The 2002 “Director’s Cut” adds unique footage from NASA’s Apollo program. Additional rarely-seen footage will close the program. Starts at 7:30 p.m.

Afternoon on Broadway: Shakespeare in Broadway Musicals: Though it seems unlikely, William Shakespeare’s plays provided the plots, characters, and inspiration for several musicals. The best known are Rodgers and Hart’s “The Boys from Syracuse” (1938), inspired by “The Comedy of Errors;” Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me, Kate” (1948), based on “The Taming of the Shrew;” Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s “West Side Story” (1957), a modern retelling of “Romeo and Juliet;” and Galt MacDermot’s “Two Gentlemen of Verona” (1971), a rock musical based on the play of the same name. This talk by Marc Courtade will examine these shows using musical and video examples to show how well Shakespeare translated into the twentieth century musical. Starts at 3 p.m.
Sports Films with Professor Val Franco: “Chariots of Fire:” Hugh Hudson’s Oscar-winner, about the British track team competing at the 1924 Olympics, stars Ben Cross, Ian Charleson, Nigel Havers, Ian Bannon, Alice Krige, John Gielgud and Patrick Magee. Sandwiched In: Uncovering a Diversity of Natural Colors: How Animals See Color: From the striking colors of flowers to the bold plumage of birds, the world is filled with an amazing diversity of colors. Many of those colors are invisible to your eye. Sometimes this may provide a benefit to the bearer of those colors (i.e., camouflage); however, generally these colors are not adapted to how they may appear to us. Instead, the colors have evolved to capture or evade the attention of other organisms. In this talk, LIU Professor Daniel Hanley will introduce you to the concept of color vision and describe how other organisms see the world. Explore colors from organisms found right here on Long Island (that you may find familiar) and discover a richer and broader appreciation for this natural beauty. Starts at 12:15 p.m.
