Great Neck Library Budget Workshop at Main

The second Budget Workshop for the Great Neck Library 2020/2021 Budget is scheduled for Monday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Library’s Large Multipurpose Room, 159 Bayview Ave.

The Library’s Budget Hearing and Adoption will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Library’s Large Multipurpose Room. Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings.

Board of Trustees Meeting at Station

A regular meeting of the Great Neck Library Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road (2nd level), Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Confirm with the Library at 466-8055 that there has been no change in meeting date, time or location.

AARP Tax Assistance at Parkville

AARP Tax Preparers will assist in preparing and filling simple Federal tax returns online only each Wednesday beginning Feb. 5 until April 15 between the hours of 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St. (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. The Isle of Klezbos, arranged by the Music Advisory Committee

Enjoy the sounds of the NYC-based Isle of Klezbos on Sunday, March 22 at 1:30 p.m. in the Main Library’s Community Room, 159 Bayview Ave. in Great Neck.

Now celebrating two decades together, the soulful, fun-loving powerhouse all-gal klezmer sextet has toured from Vienna to Vancouver since 1998. The group is noted for their tight yet adventurous sound, lush arrangements, luscious compositions, and solos that swing the Yiddish stratosphere.

The Great Neck Library Music Advisory Committee, now in its 49th year, co-chaired by founding member Gabe Chieco (who passed away on Nov. 19, 2019), and Michele Ganz, includes members Estelle Pace, Robert Schaufeld, Donna Litke (staff member), Joan Brill-Pavlovic, Ellen Charlop, and Pamela Levy. This all-volunteer committee of Great Neck residents represents a wide range of musical experience and performance.
Great Neck School District residents have priority for seating. Please arrive 15 minutes early for preferred seating.

Heroines at the Helm presented by the Whaling Museum and Education Center

The Whaling Museum and Education Center present Heroines at the Helm on Tuesday, March 24 at 2 p.m. in the Main Library’s community room, 159 Bayview Ave. Be inspired by the little-known and fascinating experiences of whaling wives.

Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee, about Hollywood in 1969, will be shown on March 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Ave.

Parkville Pageturners

Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance is the next book for discussion on Thursday, March 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St. (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. Call 466-8055, ext. 257.

Encore Film at Station

The next encore film, about Hollywood in 1969, will be shown on Thursday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Rd. (2nd level), above Best Market.

Pet Food Drive Collection at Great Neck Library

Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso along with Long Island Cares is sponsoring the annual Legislative Pet Food Drive from April 1 to 30 to help local soup kitchens and food pantries meet the needs of struggling families with pets. You may drop off unopened cans and/or bags of dog food, cat food, cat box litter, treats and toys at any of the four Great Neck Library locations.

Give Back to Your Community

The Great Neck Library is seeking prospective candidates for the Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee. This year’s Library Election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020. There will be four seats expiring in January 2021 – two on the Board of Trustees: Rebecca Miller and Josie Pizer; and two on the Nominating Committee: Cheng Carey Ye and Siu Long (Alex) Au.

Any nominee for a position on the Board of Trustees or the Nominating Committee must be a member of the Great Neck Library Association by 5 p.m. on the Record Date of Oct. 5, 2020.

All persons eighteen years of age or older, who are residents of the Great Neck School District and are either valid library cardholders or registered voters with the Nassau County Board of Elections will be members of the Association.

Library patrons connected to the Internet are asked to check the website: www.cancellations.com for Library weather-related closings/program cancellations.

In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings.

In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. This is a great way for Library District residents who are connected online to be advised of weather-related changes in Library hours or programs.
