Garden City Park School second-graders recently presented animal and adaptation projects in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) class with teacher Mr. Salvatore Giurlanda.

The projects were a culminating activity to the students’ study of various habitats throughout the world. The class worked in groups to create colorful posters that featured different animals and their habitats, including the Amazon rainforest, the African savannah and the Arctic. They also designed and constructed shoes to handle the terrain of their habitat. Highlights of their designs included Popsicle-stick bottoms for snow traction in the Arctic, feathers for waterproof shoes for the Amazon rainforest and camouflaged colors for use in the African savannah.

After each group presented its project, students answered questions from their classmates and teacher. Principal Amy Sullivan was also in attendance and commended the students for their hard work and creativity.
