A Great Neck man was charged with assaulting a police officer after officials responded to a fight outside the Baker Hill Tavern on Middle Neck Road early Saturday morning, according to the county police.

Officials said 23-year-old Kevin Rodriguez, of 88 Middle Neck Road, approached officers who responded to a disturbance outside the tavern at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.  Rodriguez  began to yell at the responding officers, at which point the officers ordered Rodriguez to disperse on several occasions, according to the police report.

Rodriguez refused to adhere to the officers’ requests, according to the report, and approached an officer while flaring his arms in “an aggressive manner.”  Officials said Rodriguez was then placed under arrest and subsequently spat onto an officer’s face.

Rodriguez then allegedly kicked another officer in the head while being placed in a police ambulance.  He was then transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.  Two officers were also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the report.

Officials said Rodriguez was charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, disorderly conduct, two second-degree harassment charges and resisting arrest.

Rodriguez was arraigned in Mineola on Sunday, according to the report, but efforts to reach a court official to learn the status of the arraignment were unavailing.

Efforts to reach a representative from the Baker Hill Tavern for comment were also unavailing.
