Great Neck Library wastes $$$

The Island Now

Just when I thought I had heard every inconceivable excuse to waste my tax money, the library board thought up another.

When a faucet leaks in my house, I see precious water and dollars going down the drain. It is well over due to stop the leak of my tax money, that is being wasted by our library board. Not only did they hire Paul Bloom, one of Great Neck’s most expensive lawyers, but when I questioned the board, with the finance director present, how much per hour the taxpayers were paying him, they couldn’t answer.

Now to add insult to injury, they signed a contract, with Bonnie Graham, at a $125 per hour, to inform us about the upcoming $20+ million library bond. There has been enough money spent on colored flyers and mailings, plus the library newsletter. Why hire Graham to tell us why we should vote, when the library has it’s own publicity department?

Graham would have to work approximately six hours a day, until Oct. 24, to earn the $20,000 contract.

The president of our library, Janet Esagoff, and director, Marino, needs to take a few lessons from our Great Neck Park District board, which goes over every line of the budget, answer every question and never ever rude to the public.

Is the library board so afraid that the taxpayers eyes are opened after eight long years of wasteful spending. It is time to turn the faucet off…enough money has gone down the drain. The only other alternative is for myself and others to deduct the library tax portion of our property tax bill, until wasteful spending stops.
