Great Neck library reassigns committees

The Great Neck Library trustees reassigned leadership positions at their meeting Tuesday, and created three new committees as well.

Library Board of Trustees President Marietta DiCamillo said the three new committees – the personnel, programming review and website/technology – are all related to the renovation of the Main Branch currently underway.

“Each will have a very significant impact to the new building when it reopens,” DiCamillo said.

The Main Branch, located at 159 Bayview Ave., is closed for about a year so repairs can be made to the building. The repairs will be funded by a $10.4 million bond approved by the voters in the Great Neck library system.

DiCamillo said the personnel committee will put more structure in place for library employees and build a better system of accountability.

“We’re trying to get to levels where people have very defined job tasks and functions that will help the director,” she said.

The programming review committee will help bolster the young adult programs when the new library is finished, DiCamillo said. The committee will also review some of the programs the library currently offers and determine if the library should still offer them, she said.

“I have heard people questioning why we should have certain programs,” DiCamillo said. “The committee will be partnering with the staff….When you have more people discussing different items and solutions you come up with the best idea.”

The website/technology committee will evaluate and improve the library’s computer systems, DiCamillo said. She said the library’s servers and software are old.

The three branches have changed their hours to accommodate the closing of the Main Branch.  The Station Branch, located at 26 Great Neck Road, and the Parkville Branch, located at 10 Campbell St., is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Lakeville Branch, located at 475 Great Neck Road, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and will be closed Sundays.

DiCamillo said the primary change to committee assignments were that some of the spots left open by Janet Eshagoff are being replaced by newly elected Trustee Robert Schaufeld.

Schaufeld is now on the director search committee, fundraising committee, long range planning, policy and bylaws committee and website/technology committee, according to the new list.

Schaufeld took Eshagoff’s place in late January, after her decision to not run for re-election.
