Two Great Neck schools were closed Wednesday after a campus power failure on Tuesday night stretched into the following day.

Colleen Bowler, Great Neck Public Schools public relations coordinator, said the power at Great Neck South Middle and High Schools went out about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Classes throughout the day Wednesday at both schools were canceled, Bowler said. An alert about the outage was posted on the district’s website.

PSEG responded quickly, Bowler said, and the power was restored by 1 p.m. Wednesday. The district also called a few contractors to evaluate the power situation.

“I am happy to report the power is back on and classes will be in session tomorrow,” Bowler said.

PSEG Long Island spokesperson Jeremy Walsh said the cause was a loose connection and has been corrected.

The Phipps Administration Building was open during the outage, Bowler said.
