Rev. Marc Herbst of Church of Our Saviour Lutheran is pictured presenting the volunteer staff of The New LIFE Center Long Island with the donation of a recent successful church mission project. The delivery of more than 35 backpacks filled with school supplies, as well as additional boxes of supplies, will be distributed to the children of financially disadvantaged families.
The congregation youth participated with adults in purchasing and filling the backpacks. Referrals of recipients come from a large variety of social service organizations, congregations and government agencies.
The New LIFE Center, a food pantry and community resource center, offers many donation project opportunities. Church of Our Saviour participates in monthly food collections, Infant Layette program through an annual baby shower, Thanksgiving and Easter food baskets, and sponsorship of children with personalized gifts at Christmas as well as back-to-school supplies.
