Give Catholic schools safety money

The Island Now

This letter was sent to various government officials.

I am outraged that the needs of Catholic schools and our families are being ignored while additional efforts are being made to support public schools. For example, the funds already committed for school safety projects apply only to public schools and do nothing to address the safety of children in Catholic schools. Does the safety of our students not matter?

In addition, the extended learning grant program being considered for public schools likely will increase our tuition unless we are included in the program.

And, once again, the governor’s budget proposal falls short of the amount needed to fully reimburse our schools for state-imposed mandates.

I urge you to:

Provide safety grants to religious and independent schools;

Include our schools in the extended learning program; and

Provide funds to fully reimburse our schools for state mandates.

The children in Catholic schools need you to stand up for them just as you do for children in public schools. Please let me know how you intend to address this injustice.
