Geo wiz! Herricks MS student to compete at state level

Herricks Middle School eighth-grader Michael Zanetti was named the overall school winner in the National Geographic GeoBee. As one of the top 100 middle school students in New York State, he is now qualified for the state tournament.

School GeoBees were held throughout the state to determine each school champion. School champions then took an online qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. The 31st New York State GeoBee which will be held on March 29 in Albany, where contestants will vie for monetary awards and eligibility for the National Championship in May.

School GeoBees covered geographical topics related to countries, cities, continents and bodies of water all around the world. Historical events, landmarks, animals and vegetation of specific regions were also components of the questions posed.

Congratulations to Michael, as well as Herricks Middle School runners-up Sasha Stern and Isabella Pavolvici.
