Former fire chief, policeman Fico dies at 77

Joseph Fico, Jr., a former chief and five-decade member of the Port Washington Fire Department’s Atlantic Hook & Ladder Company, died on Friday, according to the Fire Chief’s Office.

Fico, a lifelong resident of Port, was 77.

He had worked for the Atlantic Hook & Ladder Company for 59 years and was retired as a detective sergeant of the Port Washington Police Department

Fico is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen, his children Karen and David, and grandchildren Kyle, Megan, Daniel, Bryan, and Jason. His son-in-law Ken DiLeo was formerly president of Atlantic Hook & Ladder Company.

Fico will be reposing at the Atlantic Hook & Ladder Company, located at ‪25 Carlton Ave. in Port Washington,‬ on Monday and Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and ‪7:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm‬.

Joint services with the Port Washington Fire and Police Department will be held ‪on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.

An additional service will take place at Saint Peter of Alcantara Church ‪on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.,‬ with interment to follow at  Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
