Floral Park Memorial H.S. names valedictorian and salutatorian

Floral Park Memorial High School announced that Maya Goss and Hammad Izhar are the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2020.

Goss has a 104.05 average, and she scored a 1540 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT. Along with her academic achievements, Goss is an invaluable member of the school’s award-winning Marching Band. With a personal mission of bringing music to larger audiences, she serves as secretary of the Tri-M National Music Honor Society, where she organizes trips to the elementary schools and nursing homes. Goss is also involved with the Metro New York Youth Adult Committee, an initiative spearheaded by her church. For the last two years, she has been planning and organizing group events for the Unitarian Universality Metro Community, promoting the youth to work together. She has had memorable service trips to West Virginia and South Dakota, building houses and assisting the Native Americans on their reservations.

Izhar has a 103.3 average, and he scored a 1530 on his SAT and attained a perfect score on the Math II and Biology Subject Tests. He is enrolled in the district’s Instrumentation and Automation Program, where he is a student in the Physics “C” curriculum and will sit for the advanced placement exam in that subject in June of 2020. Additionally, Izhar is the sitting president of the Science Olympiads, where he’s competed and placed numerous times in Experimental Design, Thermodynamics, Circuit Lab, Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry Lab. He has also been conducting science research for the past five years at Floral Park Memorial, including the project “The Pappus Chain and the Triple EEE Threat: Biodiversity of Culex and Culiseta Mosquitoes in Floral Park.” He is a member of the school’s Chamber Orchestra, indoor percussion performing group and the Model UN team.
