On Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, residents of the Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD approved a $17.5 million bond referendum to fund renovations and expansion at both Floral Park-Bellerose Elementary School and John Lewis Childs Elementary School. The final vote was 754 YES and 493 NO.

“We are extremely grateful to all community residents who participated in this vote,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Dantona. “As a result of the community’s continued support, we will now be able to create an equitable 21st-century learning environment for all students in both of our schools that addresses their needs and supports student success.”

The list of repairs and renovations included in the bond referendum was developed based upon a demographic study and enrollment projection performed by Western Suffolk BOCES, an analysis of instructional requirements and goals, recommendations from the Strategic Planning Committee and input from parents, teachers, administrators and community residents.

“Once again, our community has shown they value quality schools and a quality education,” said Board of Education President Laura A. Ferone. “I am proud to live in a community where our children’s future is a priority. We will keep our community informed as we begin the process of addressing the scope of work included in the bond.”
