Surrounded by family members, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members, students from Floral Park-Bellerose and John Lewis Childs schools bid farewell to the district and their elementary years during moving up ceremonies in June.
At Floral Park-Bellerose, Principal Jamie Adams congratulated students on their successful educational journey and their participation in charitable endeavors throughout the years. She also encouraged them to continue to “be involved.”
“Be involved in your family, your school and your community,” she said. “Be involved and challenge yourself to be the best that you can be, reach high for your goals and dreams, and remember, education is an essential component in reaching your goals and opening doors of opportunity.”
The school’s graduates also heard from classmates Suki Vesecky, Aiden DeJesus and Violet Rossi, who reflected on the past, present and future, and enjoyed performing as part of the band and chorus.
At John Lewis Childs, Principal Susan Cvitkovich Fazio asked students to promise to have courage, do things that bring them joy, have many different kinds of friends, offer empathy when someone needs it, work hard, smile and be humble, to put the phone down when someone is talking to them and be careful when they post on social media sites.
The graduates were also addressed by Student Council President Nicholas Rowe and Vice President Lauren Patalano and took part in wonderful musical performances.
Superintendent Michael Dantona addressed students at both ceremonies prior to the presentation of diplomas.
“Reflect on the people that love you; they have given you much. Your family, friends and teachers have supported and challenged you and helped you become the people you are today. Be always grateful,” he said. “The best part about being 11 is soon you get to be 12. It’s never too late become the person you want be. I hope you live a life that you’re proud of, and if you should ever get to the point that you’re not feeling so proud, know you have the strength to start over.”
Dantona and the entire administration wish all the graduates success in high school and their future endeavors.
