First place win for Herricks senior in Ringling College writing contest

Herricks High School sophomore Carolyn Lau was named a first-place winner in the Ringling College of Art and Design’s Sixth Annual “Storytellers of Tomorrow” High School Creative Writing Contest.

Her entry, “On Circles,” won in the nonfiction category based on overall quality.

More than 500 high school students submitted literary, genre and nonfiction stories to the competition. Carolyn was awarded prizes that include $150, an iPad, an iPad for her writing teacher’s classroom and publication in Ringling College’s literary arts journal, “Shift.” Additionally, she received rave reviews from judges who praised her structure, prose and verse sections.
