In response to issues posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Diocese of Rockville Centre has announced that the entrance exam traditionally taken in-person in the fall for admission into the island’s Catholic high schools will instead take place online.

The diocese’s Catholic High Schools of Long Island branch announced on its website that the Catholic High School Entrance Exam, commonly called the CHSEE test, will be forgone in favor of the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools.

The TACHS test is used by the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens for students based in New York City’s five boroughs.

Students will be asked to register online at tachsinfo.com, on a link that will be live on Aug. 24. Registration for the test will close on Oct. 23 at 5:00 p.m., with no option for walk-in testing or late registration.

Beginning Nov. 1, students will receive one of three testing times on the testing date. From their registration up until Nov. 5, students will write in their school choices, where their scores will be sent.

For students in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the test will be administered online on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Following the test, TACHS applicant record forms, available at tachsinfo.com/applicant.aspx, will be due to the student’s desired school by Dec. 16.

Notices of admission from schools will be sent out two months later in January of 2021.

Schools that fall under the Diocese of Rockville Centre umbrella, and thus will require the TACHS test for an entrance exam, include Chaminade High School in Mineola, Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville, Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, St. Dominic College Preparatory High School in Oyster Bay, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, and St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset.

Further information, including extended testing time, is available at tachsinfo.com.
