Entertainment goes on at county parks

The Island Now

I am so very proud of our parks system and all we have to offer in our great county. This summer we have an action packed line up of quality entertainment and the best part is that most events are free for Nassau County residents!

My efforts to create tourism, coupled with the immense support from local business sponsors, makes it possible to bring top notch events like the TD fireworks spectacular to you at no charge.

This summer my bi-weekly column will alert you to our upcoming events. So get your lawn chair ready and mark your calendar for some good old fashioned free park entertainment.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, ceremonies honoring our armed services past and present begin at 6:45 p.m.

USO Liberty Bells open the show with a special patriotic performance. Tony Orlando then takes the stage with his chart topping songs including “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” and “Knock Three Times”.

In Eisenhower Park our International Music series marches on with Chinese American Night on Sunday, Aug. 4 and Irish American Night on Aug. 5. These free events begin at 7:30 p.m.

The International Music Nights Concert Series is a great Nassau County tradition with nearly two dozen nights dedicated to music and culture that honors a range of ethnic groups. So come enjoy the park, music and culture all summer long.

On Wednesdays we continue our free Noontime Summer Concert Series in Eisenhower Park. On August 7 we welcome My Way – Tribute to Sinatra.

Also this summer on Thursday evenings we are continuing our Family Movie Nights at Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park. Beginning at dusk, family-friendly films will be shown on the big screen, including “Rise of the Guardians” on Aug. 8.

Please visit www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/Parks/index.html for more information on any of our parks events.

Thank you and enjoy your parks system!
