Easy life a path to national decline

The Island Now

Not so long ago it was commented that we don’t need any immigrant labor. We need engineers and the like. The following shouldbe worthy of consideration.

When the tomato crop was ripe in Alabama, rulings were in place that did not allow for immigrants to pick the crop. Some people attempted to do the work but were found to be wanting in stamina and also were unwilling to work for what was being paid. The crop rotted in the fields. A few points can be made from this.

There was a great empire that once fell and some of the reasons were the easy life and the likes of debauchery. In the end they were  probably wanting more and more wine but there was not more. The grapes were probably rotting on the vine. Much of the disease of today probably results from similar causes. Perhaps one obese with diabetes should have to pick tomatoes as treatment to again become lean, healthy and strong.

In order for Social Security to survive, the minimum wage should be no less than $12 per hour. Fifteen would be better.

More money would then be paid into the system. There would also be more equity. $7.50 per hour is $60 for eight hours before deductions. It is peanuts.

The need for engineers and the like? This example can be applied to more areas than one might realize. For the convenience of not going to another room to check the time I decided to get another clock radio with alarm. In 2000 I found a nice one in Walgreens.

Ten bucks. It has been keeping perfect time for 12 years. My older one does the same and everything else works. It has been  keeping perfect time day in and out for more than forty years. These time-alarm modules and small audio amplifiers have long been  perfected. No work for engineers here.

It was on this old radio that at the time I listened daily to WINS 1010 news radio to the spooky propaganda about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. At night on TV news I would see the U.N. weapons inspectors that eventually had searched every nook and cranny in Iraq and nothing had been found. I was giving this matter my full attention.

Unfortunately the U.S. Congress eventually went rah rah rah (Pres.Obama didn’t) and Iraq was bombed to rubble but not before the U.N. was bashed and trounced on. Here is an example of wrongeousness unexpectedly rising up clothed as righteousness.

The world is a tinderbox these days and care has to be taken regarding who will be in control. How many have died and been wounded to date as a result of the Iraqi invasion. Seldom is a rogue leader so well contained as was Saddam. It could have been dealt with under the auspices of the world in proper fashion.

As it turned out the last U.S. president had the pleasure as if he had pulled the rope himself and then they all gloated.
