East Hills will be hosting its first annual Thanksgiving Holiday Blood Drive for the New York Blood Center (NYBC) on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., at the East Hills Park Theater Building.

Blood Drive: Anyone who is healthy, 16 years of age or older (under age 18 requires parental consent), and weighs at least 110 pounds is eligible to donate blood. The procedure takes just 10-12 minutes and is performed by a trained professional from NYBC. People age 76 and older can donate blood if they meet all criteria and present a physician’s letter. Each donation helps provide blood to up to three people of all ages. Accident victims, burn victims, people undergoing heart surgery and many others who need emergency blood donations will greatly benefit.

Every blood donor will receive a raffle ticket as a thank you, for a chance to win one of several exciting raffle prizes, some worth as much as $1,200 each! Red blood cell donors will receive three raffle tickets. Non-residents are welcome to participate!

Appointments are recommended for blood donations. To schedule an appointment or if you have any questions please contact Adam Liebowitz at Adzee2004@gmail.com, 516-458-0390; or Lior Schwartz at: Liorsergei@gmail.com, 201-248-8533.

Medication Drive: Additionally, East Hills will be teaming up with law enforcement for a pill drive where residents can dispose of unwanted or expired prescription and over the counter pills to prevent them from getting into the wrong hands or contaminating the environment. Pill drive hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Mayor Michael Koblenz commented, “We thank Adam Liebowitz and Lior Schwartz for their dedicated service as the Roslyn High School Student Chairs of the pill and blood drives. We also appreciate the fine work of Trustee Clara Pomerantz who arranged for a police presence for the medication drive. Lastly, we would like to recognize, with profound gratitude, all the exceptional volunteers and donors who are helping to make the blood drive a huge success. Everyone who is a part of the program will be directly responsible for giving the gift of life to so many people this holiday season.”
