East Hills will celebrate Independence Day in full color and sound next week with its annual fireworks display.

Scheduled for July 3, with the nation’s birthday serving as a rain date, the fireworks event in the village park will include a picnic, DJ, live band and, once the sun sets, fireworks with musical accompaniment. The parade is planned for July 4, starting at the top of the hill in the park.

The July 3 festivities will kick off at 6 p.m. with the DJ and dinner provided by Park Grille Catering. Food will include gyros, kebabs, hamburgers and frankfurters as well as an assortment of desserts, drinks and snacks.

At 6:30 p.m., Petty Rumours, a Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac tribute band, will take the stage.

The fireworks will begin around 9:15 p.m.

“I think the 4th of July fireworks that we do are fabulous, and they are even better because we’re so close to them,” said Mayor Michael Koblenz.

East Hills residents can enter the event with their “park card” and may bring up to four guests. Guest tickets can be requested at the pool or the park office.

Residents should come to the event to celebrate the United States, Koblenz said.

“It’s called Independence Day,” he said. “People gave their lives for independence and continue to give their lives even as we speak today for our freedoms, so people should recognize that.”
