Eagle Scout holding fundraising project

The Island Now

Eagle Scout candidate Tyler Lew of Boy Scout Troop 97 will be leading a Redeemable Bottle and Can Drive Fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 15, as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project.

All proceeds from the collection of refundable cans and plastic or glass bottles will go towards Lew’s service project, which involves painting and landscaping the parking lot at Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson.

The purpose of his service project is to improve the environment by advocating the importance to recycle, go green and to preserve nature.

The Eagle Scout Service Project is one of the most challenging requirements for earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouts. For this Eagle Project, the Scout must demonstrate his ability to plan, organize, develop and provide leadership within our community.

If you would like to contribute bottles and cans but are unable to get them there that day, contact Tyler Lew at (516) 365-0082 to arrange for pick-up. Recycling your cans and bottles not only supports his Eagle Scout Service Project but you will also be helping to keep our earth healthy and green by saving landfill space and conserving energy and oil.

The fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The American Legion Post 304 parking lot, located at 27 Bayview Ave. in Manhasset.  ‘

All funds raised from the can and bottle drive will be used for purchasing a long list of materials and supplies necessary to complete the service project. Any money left over will be donated to Clark Botanic Garden.
