Design Within Reach is making a comeback in Long Island, this time with two-floor 12,000 square feet studio in Manhasset.
“We’re thrilled to be back on Long Island with an innovative space that truly allows us to show customers how to live with authentic modern design,” John Edelman, CEO of DWR said in a statement.
The retail store is set to open a studio at 1900 Northern Blvd., the former space vacated by Daffy’s adjacent the Apple store.
DWR previously operated stores in Roslyn and East Hampton which both shuttered in 2011.
Kim Phillips, a spokeswoman for DWR said the previous Long Island locations had small retail footprints and it could only accommodate a limited product assortment.
“The reason the Roslyn location closed, basically was because the store wasn’t large enough to deliver the brand experience we wanted to,” Phillips said.“We needed a larger space and we found it with the new Manhasset location.”
The new location will be outfitted with hundreds of pendant lights and an integration of 24 fully realized room vignettes.
It will also showcase an extensive assortment of outdoor collections for lounging and dining as well as a dedicated area to test task chairs from brands like Herman Miller, Knoll and Humanscale.
Customers will also have the opportunity to see how products will look in their own homes using the DWR 3-D Room Planner.
DWR carries collections and the work of designers including Charles and Ray Eames, Chris Hardy, Egg Collective, George Nelson, Jens Risom and Norm Architects.
“Long Island has a long history of architectural excellence, and we look forward to sharing our passion for modern design,” Edelman said.
The company is working the architectural firm D Form A to design the studio and Light Studio LA to create dramatic lighting design throughout the space.
The company currently operates three studios in Manhattan, one in Secaucus, N.J. and a warehouse in Brooklyn.
Design Within Reach, which is headquartered in Stamford, Conn. was founded in 1998. It sells its furniture and accessories to residential and commercial customers through retail Studios in North America.
The company said the store is expected to open by the end of the spring although construction hasn’t begun.
