Nassau County police ticketed three students using fake guns for a school film project Friday afternoon after responding to a report of armed men in the Maple Street parking lot in the Village of Great Neck Plaza.

The students were each issued an appearance ticket for Village of Great Neck Plaza court for not having a filming permit, said Eloise Abdullah of the Nassau County Police Department Public Informations Office.

Great Neck Plaza Court Clerk Pattianne DiRosa said the village had not yet received the appearance tickets from the police but believes they may come in by the end of the week.

If convicted in village court, the three men face punishment “by a fine of not more than $2,500 or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or by both such fine or imprisonment,” according to village code.

Abdullah said police responded to calls about three men with guns in the Maple Street parking lot.

After investigation, she said, police discovered the men were filming a movie for a school project and that the guns were not real.
