County honors Lake Success’ DealerTrack

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano honored Village of Lake Success-based business DealerTrack last week as the county’s “Employer of the Month” during a ceremony held at its local corporate offices.

The distinction came after DealerTrack, which began operation more than a decade ago as a local business dedicated to providing a credit application network for automobile dealerships, announced it would create 150 new jobs nationwide.

Nearly half of those jobs will be located in Lake Success at the company’s 1111 Marcus Avenue corporate offices, DealerTrack public relations manager Mike DeMeo said.

“The company … celebrated its 10th anniversary this year,” DeMeo said. “Since the beginning, we’ve been here on Long Island. The roots are here. It’s a tremendous honor for us to get that.”

Since its inception in 2001, DealerTrack has grown to service more than 17,000 car dealerships and over 1,100 credit lenders across the country. The business also includes a number of other software-related products intended to enhance efficiency and profitability for all areas of the country’s automotive industry.

“Businesses like DealerTrack are the heartbeat of our local economy,” Mangano said in a press release. “I applaud DealerTrack for its commitment to employing residents and doing business in Nassau County.”

And that commitment began from DealerTrack’s earliest incarnation.

“We started out as the credit application network for auto dealers,” DeMeo said. “We grew from there.”

The Lake Success business now operates the largest online credit application network in the U.S., DeMeo said.

“When you go in to buy a car and they submit a credit application for you, they’ll submit it online and it will go through our network to the lenders for approval,” he said. “That’s just one of the offerings we have.”

DealerTrack also offers a Dealer Management System, which provides car dealerships with tools to manage their operations and customer databases. The company also offers other financial-related products for dealers.

“We have some other things that assists the … sales managers with their jobs as well in terms of getting deals done, electronic contracting, those type of things,” DeMeo said. “(There are) different desking applications that we have for dealers to help them sort through a deal, help a customer as well.”

Now, DealerTrack is looking to expand its services even more.

The company will create 150 new jobs at its 12 locations around the U.S. and Canada this year.

“Over the years we’ve acquired a lot of different companies,” DeMeo said. “They were based and had facilities in different locations as well. For instance, we have facilities in Sacramento. We have a big facility for our DMS products in Salt Lake City and also Dallas as well.”

Many of those new positions will directly benefit local residents, however, as DealerTrack is in the process of hiring 75 new employees, who will work at its Lake Success corporate office.

“They’re mostly technical jobs, product management and services,” DeMeo said.

For DealerTrack, it has been a key mission for the company to continue to grow its business locally.

“I think it was important for us,” DeMeo said. “We’re growing. The economy hit some ups and downs, but the auto business continues to grow. Dealers are looking a lot to technology, similar to what we’re offering, to help them gain efficiencies and become more profitable and manage that growth for them. It’s been a good thing for us.”

DealerTrack has listings for its new positions on its Web site www.dealertrack.com. Anyone interested in learning more about, or applying for those jobs, can do so online, DeMeo said.

“It is important for the community to know there are jobs available here on Long Island,” Mangano said. “We need to continue to bolster our efforts to promote our many economic strengths and opportunities.”
