County event to aid vets

A Veterans Stand Down will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Freeport Armory at 63 Babylon Turnpike in Freeport. 
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is hosted by the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency with assistance from volunteers representing all service organizations. 
“My administration is committed to serving our veterans and ensuring resources are provided to them once they return home from service,” Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said.  “Nassau County Stand Downs have assisted veterans in securing benefits, job counseling, legal advice and dental care — I thank all those good citizens who donate their time to making this event a success.”
Veterans will receive assistance with securing entitled benefits, job counseling and legal advice, according to a press release from the Nassau County executives office.
Clothes and food donated from the community will be available to the veterans, as well as a BBQ, haircuts, medical screenings, enrollment in the Veterans Affairs health care system and dental cleaning offered by Dental on the Go.
Representatives from Nassau County government agencies will be participating, including the departments of Social Services, Health, and Human Services, as well as The Salvation Army, thestate Department of Labor, The Department of Veterans Affairs, state Division of Veterans Affairs and The Red Cross.
