Cosme captures Nassau crown

Herricks High School girls tennis player Taylor Cosme stepped onto the courts at Eisenhower Park to compete in the finals of the Nassau County Girls Tennis Championships.  

Cosme, a junior and the No. 1 singles player for Herricks, was seeded No. 2 in the county tournament and had already defeated three other singles players in straight sets before reaching the championship, squaring off against

the tourney’s top seed, Nicole Koskovolis of Manhasset High School. 

Cosme was focused and ready to take on the challenge, displaying a strong forehand, backhand slices down the line and powerrful and accurate baseline shots.  

Cosme won the championships in straight sets, upsetting Koskovolis, 6-2, 6-4.  

Cosme is currently competing in the Girls Tennis State Championship, having won her opening round match this past Saturday in Latham, defeating Sophia He of Spackenkill, 6-2, 6-4. Cosme will face Suffolk champ, Shoreham-Wading River’s Aimme Manfredo, in the quarterfinals Sunday.
