The Wheaton College Symphonic Band performs traditional and contemporary wind band music. The Symphonic Band includes both music majors and liberal arts majors who enjoy a close community and sharing their musical gifts.
18 SUNY Oneonta students took part in the ninth annual undergraduate New Critics Literature Conference on Saturday, April 14.
Students presented their scholarly work on literature, and the event culminated in a keynote address by one of the nation’s preeminent scholars of African American literary history, Prof. Lawrence Jackson, Distinguished Professor of English and History at Johns Hopkins University.

Esther Kim of Port Washington was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Kim was initiated at Florida International University.
Kim is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.
SUNY New Paltz student Rebecca Bastos of Mineola is a member of the cast and crew for the SUNY New Paltz production of “Avenue Q.”
Bhakti Patel of Albertson was one of eight Hofstra University students honored this winter with Phi Beta Kappa Book Awards, sponsored by the Provost’s office and the Hofstra University Bookstore. Hofstra’s Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, one of only 283 in the nation, honors a small number of promising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have attained a 4.0 GPA while taking a broad and rigorous coursework in the liberal arts and sciences.
Bhakti, a member of Hofstra’s class of 2020, is majoring in Pre-Health.
Justin Cenname of Port Washington, New York, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Cenname is pursuing a degree in political science at The University of Alabama.

Morrisville State College recently announced that Joseph Pagan of New Hyde Park was named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2017 semester. Joseph is a major in the Criminal Justice – BTech program.
To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must achieve an average of 3.0 to 3.99 for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.
Samuel Sundick of Great Neck has received the SUNY Oneonta 2017-2018 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence. To be eligible for the award, a student must be a freshman, sophomore or junior with a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.
Sundick, whose major is Communication Studies, received a certificate, a gift card to the campus bookstore, and an invitation to attend the annual Susan Sutton Smith Lecture and reception.
Michael Cozzi of Manhasset, a student at McDaniel College, Westminster, Md., participated in the National Model United Nations 2018 conference in New York City, March 18-22.
McDaniel’s delegation of 16 students represented Nepal and the team received an honorable mention delegation award.
James Madison University announced that Andrea Marie Ruggiero of Mineola graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology from James Madison University during commencement exercises Dec. 16.
