Coliseum voters not schnooks

The Island Now

Just for the record, it does seem that as the referendum vote of Aug. 1 was forced on the voters of Nassau County. That said voters with the added factor of not having agreed to do so and that said voters have a legal and ethical objection to paying the cost of said referendum.

From day one, this entire matter has been a guessing game of read between the lines. One says this, another something else and as far as bonafide contracts go, there was never a contract.

After the referendum failed, reading between the lines, one could sense how furious some were and of having to kiss those cost overruns good bye.

It is conceivable that the voters of Nassau County could have had as much as a billion dollars or more monkey on their backs for 30 years.

Again, one can read between the lines as to in who’s pockets those overruns would have gone. Voting it down is to say we are not schnooks.

I have read the back and forth articles concerning the Great Neck Library.

As the matter does not concern me I can make objective observations. Of interest, it was said that the Great Neck Library agreed upon a time to spend $17,000 to repair the air conditioner compressor. It was not said if that money was actually spent.

I am reminded of when in 1996 I needed an air conditioner. The man in the shop said “Here is a second-hand one I repaired and I guarantee it to work: $150!

Fifteen years later the it still works like new. Not only did I get the repair, I got the entire air conditioner. I wonder what repair only could cost $17,000?

As for the building, I live in an 80-year-old house. They don’t build them like this anymore. Nothing shoddy about it. It is good for many more years.
