The Adelphi University women’s basketball program traveled north to play Saint Michael’s College in cross-divisional conference action Saturday afternoon.

Leading by 12 at the half, the Panthers improved to 19-2 following a 70-51 decision over the hosts. The Purple Knights drop to 8-11 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

Leading the offensive end for the Panthers was Anh-Dao Tran who posted 16 points and five assists behind 4-of-7 shooting from downtown. Sierra Clark and Jenna Halaby each scored in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively combining for nine rebounds. The Purple Knights were led by Makenzie Burud, who dropped 20 points, despite the loss.

Mannix was quick to get the Brown and Gold on the board with a layup less than a minute into the game. An 8-3 run in favor of Adelphi deemed positive, as the visitors held the lead for the remainder of the half. Samantha Milhaven hit a shot from beyond the arc that pushed the lead to double-digits, 20-10 with 10:17 left on the clock. Their largest lead of the half was reached with 49 seconds left, as Ashley Gomez hit a quick jumper off a pass from Balfour.

Back-to-back three pointers from the hosts brought them within 12 at the half, as Adelphi held a 36-24 lead with four members coming off the bench to contribute 16 points.

The Knights cut the lead to 10 with back-to-back free throws from Burud but layups from Calli Balfour and Ashley Gomez brought the lead back up to 14. Halaby drained a three-pointer with 6:53 remaining to push the score to 61-42. Another 9-3 run by the Brown and Gold completed by a Halaby lay-in allowed them to lead by 25 and reach 70 points.

A last push effort by the hosts including two shots from the charity stripe by Kelly Frappier and a final layup by Burud, still had Saint Mike’s trailing by 19.
