Cinema Arts Centre to host The Kennedys

The Island Now

Popular folk-rock and Americana duo, The Kennedys, will be the featured act during the monthly Hard Luck Café series at the Cinema Arts Centre on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8:30 p.m.

With well over a million miles of roadwork, including two stints as members of Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra, Pete and Maura Kennedy show no signs of slowing down either on the road or in the creative realm.

Life on the road and time spent in New York’s East Village have informed their songwriting over the course of 14 duo albums and a half-a-dozen side projects.

Safe Until Tomorrow, their May 2018 release, is true to that tradition.

What sets the album apart is the inclusion of several anthemic rocking songs of social consciousness that convey a strong message that can be best summed up in one of the song titles, “Be Silent No More.”

The concert will take place in the Sky Room at the Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave. in Huntington, and be preceded by an open mic at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be for sale on the day of the concert, with discounts available for Cinema Arts Centre or Folk Music Society of Huntington members.
