Chamber event offers Roslyn a taste

More than 200 guests sampled cuisine from 16 local eateries at the Roslyn Hotel on Monday as part of the fourth annual “A Taste of Roslyn,” sponsored by the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce.

“This brings the whole village together, the restaurants and the people,” said chamber President Lonnie Coleman. “It’s a way for the restaurants to grow their businesses and for business owners to gather and meet for a great cause in friendship and camaraderie.”

Even the most experienced palate was put to the test, as a variety of Italian, Greek, French, Mexican and Asian restaurants served up their finest foods.

Pearl East offered crisply-shredded beef, mango chicken with honey walnut and baby asparagus, a sushi plate and pumpkin roast duck pie.

French restaurant Bistro Citron served onion tart and quiche Lorraine.

The Roslyn Hotel served a portobello tower with poached egg, feta cheese, roasted tomato and chevron sauce.

“It opens the door for locals to try some of our unique dishes and acquire a taste for what we have to offer,” said Pat Zinnanti of 388 Restaurant, who served up zucchini linguini with filetto pomodoro sauce and country-style chicken. Banfi Vinters provided a wine tasting.

For those with more conventional tastes, Hendricks Tavern featured a cutting board, Delicacies Gourmet offered soup and wrap samples and Mitch & Toni’s American Bistro also set up a table.

Tickets for the sold-out event sold for $40 per person and $75 for couples, with proceeds benefitting the chamber.

“It’s good for the public to come out and find out who we are if they didn’t know about us, and it also gives us the opportunity to talk to some of the other restaurant owners about the things they’re going through and what the economic climate is like out there,” said Mark Hrisho of Bistro Citron.
