John Macedo, chairman of the Village of Mineola’s zoning board, has resigned from the position, trustees announced during their monthly meeting last Wednesday.

Macedo, a longtime Mineola resident, was a member of the village’s zoning board for the last 20 years, more recently serving as chairman.

“Mr. Macedo, who I am privileged to call a friend and in many ways, for a very long time, a mentor, has behind the scenes done very great things for this village,” Trustee Paul Pereira said. “His wisdom, his patience, his calming influence, his insight will be missed and we know he definitely deserves to take some time off and be with his wife and his family.”

Macedo also assisted the Town of North Hempstead with their codes for 34 years, serving as the town’s code enforcement director. Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss said.

The Village Board appointed zoning board member Richard Kotowski as temporary chairman while a permanent successor is sought.

“I’ve known Kotowski a long time He’s been on the board a long time, he’s an excellent choice,” Trustee Paul Cusato said.
