The cause of a five-alarm fire at a construction site adjacent to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset early last Thursday is still being determined, according to officials.

Officials from the Nassau County Police Department said the fire, which was at a site on hospital property, was reported in a 911 call just before 1 a.m. on Thursday. Officials said the responding officers and firefighters found “a section of the property which was under construction” going up in flames.

The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, the Port Washington Fire Department and the Nassau County Fire Department reported to the scene and were met with fire on the first floor of the building, officials said. A statement on the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department’s Facebook page identified the building as the hospital’s new surgical wing.

Officials said numerous other departments were requested to report to the scene to aid in extinguishing the flames.

No injuries were reported at the site, officials said. The cause of the fire is still being determined by investigators from the Nassau fire marshal’s office and the Arson Bomb Squad. Efforts to reach officials for an update on the investigation were unavailing.
