H. Frank Carey High School students were given a unique opportunity to interview music legends at Long Island Music Hall of Fame Gala.

Club adviser and Long Island Music Hall of Fame Vice Chairman Tom Needham arranged for students Gabby Cavalerie, Morgan Hunt and Isabella Mutt to attend the gala as members of the press. They were given full access to the red carpet, as well as the press room. Throughout the evening, the students successfully interviewed artists.

Some of the students’ notable interviews included segments with Billy Joel, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Taking Back Sunday, folk singer Melanie, alternative rocker Elliott Murphy, radio’s Cousin Brucie, Sha Na Na’s Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, comedian Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling and DJ Chuck Chillout.

After the ceremony, students edited their video in a news-like segment and posted it on the Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s website.  Some of the students’ interviews even found their way into other reporters’ work. Overall, the students did a tremendous job.

”I am very proud of how well the students handled themselves in a very competitive press environment,” Mr. Needham said. “They were able to secure interviews with some of the biggest names in music, like Billy Joel and Chuck D, and demonstrated their video skills, as well.”
