Students and staff at H. Frank Carey High School celebrated P.S. I Love You Day for the second consecutive year on Feb. 14. The mission of this important day, which is held every year on the second Friday of February, is to inspire mental health awareness and decrease bullying.
Two days prior to P.S. I Love You Day, Brooke DiPalma, the creator of the day, visited Carey. DiPalma held two assemblies to speak to students in grades nine-12 about her story, the importance of mental health awareness, suicide prevention and simply being kind to others. DiPalma received a special welcome by students who greeted her and her mother when they arrived with gifts, thanking her for telling her story and being an inspiration to the Carey community.
This year’s P.S. I Love You Day theme was “Your Story is Worth Telling.”
Students and faculty dressed in purple, held a bake sale, and participated in a door-decorating challenge. Students and teachers also pledged to “Be the ‘I’ in Kind” by posing in a custom display created by ninth-grader Thomas Peers. A video, highlighting the important stories of members of the Carey family, was also shown in classes.
The school honored P.S. I Love You Day to remind students and staff that they are never alone and that “your story is worth telling.”
