Readers Write: Brooklyn principal disses America

The Island Now

Greta Hawkins, a principal at P.S. 90 in Coney Island, is at it again banning patriotic songs.

She had in 2012 banned kindergartners from singing,” God bless the USA.” Now this year she has banned pre-K kids from singing,” Stand up for the Red, White, and Blue,” while waving mini American flags at their June 19 moving up ceremony.

It truly saddens me that a principal could instill in children a anti-American spirit.

I guess principal Greta Hawkins wants to wipe out any patriotic sentiment she deems unacceptable.

How truly sad that is indeed.  I think the Mayor should step in and set her straight that we live in America the home of the free, where many died for those freedoms and not in countries that ban free speech.
