Breast cancer hotline graduates

The Island Now

Nine women from throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens recently completed a 12-hour training session with the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.
As volunteers, the women will be taking calls from people concerned about breast cancer throughout New York State, and represent the hotline at health fairs and other educational programs, according to a press release from the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline.
“Breast cancer is no longer my grandmother’s disease,” Christina Demosthenous of Westbury said, who was 32 when she was diagnosed 11 years ago.  “We younger women should know that breast cancer doesn’t stop us, it’s just another obstacle we need to cross — I wanted to be able to learn and educate more women in my community.”
