On a picture perfect first Sunday of May the Blue Angels and Strike Force played another hard fought playoff type game.
The Blue Angels offense, led by midfielders, Lilly Becker and Jenna Neu and forwards, Amanda Garcia and Nikki Maropakis, controlled early and took several shots on goal that were stopped by excellent Strike Force goaltending.
The Blue Angel defense, led by our goalie, Michela Giura and defenders, Nicole Mrakovcic and Henna Nair kept the Strike Force off the board. The halftime whistle blew and the teams went into the half with a 0-0 tie.
The second half started the same way with both teams determined to give it their all. The Blue Angels defense in the second half, led by Emily MacKnight and Riki Cohen kept the Strike Force at bay.
Midway through the second half the Blue Angels finally broke through. Lilly Becker, with two defenders on her, made an fantastic cross to Amanda Garcia just past midfield. Garcia took the pass in stride, dribbled in and shot a bullet into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Strike Force didn’t give up. A few minutes later Maria Poulus kicked a rocket from 20 yards out that went just wide of the net. T
ime ran out and the Blue Angels walked away with a 1-0 victory.
Both teams should be very proud of the way they competed today.
