Commissioner Brian Levings is running unopposed in his bid on Dec. 8 for a sixth term with the Belgrave Water Pollution Control District. Levings’ commissioner seat is the only position up for election.

“I’m looking forward to running again and keeping up with the plant and keeping our taxes down for our constituents,” said Levings, a Village of Great Neck Plaza resident. “I think everybody is happy with how we’re doing down there.”

District Superintendent Chet Steban said there was no limit on how many terms a commissioner can serve.

During his time as commissioner, Levings said he is proud of the district’s upgrade to its filters, which replaced its chlorination system with ultraviolet disinfection, putting it in full compliance with state Department of Environmental Conservation requirements.

Levings added that the district is currently going forward with the installation of a new outflow pipe that is coming in the “near future.”

Candidates interested in running for election were required to file their name and submit a petition signed by 25 registered voters with the district by Nov. 7.

The polls will be open between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Company 4 Firehouse on the corner of Northern Boulevard and Jayson Avenue.

All district residents qualified to vote in Town of North Hempstead elections are eligible to cast ballots.

The district administrates sewage services for University Gardens, Russell Gardens, western parts of Great Neck Plaza between Great Neck Road and Cuttermill Road and the unincorporated areas on the peninsula.
