Four North Shore beaches that had been closed due to contamination from sewage reopened Thursday, according to the Nassau County Department of Health.

Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing, Morgan Beach in Glen Cove, Sea Cliff Village Beach in Sea Cliff and North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington had all been closed by the county on Tuesday, May 26, after a sewer main blockage caused untreated sewage to flow into a storm drain and out into Hempstead Harbor.

The starting point of the blockage is unknown.

A representative from the county Department of Health said in a phone call that the four beaches were reopened Thursday after water quality tests were conducted. The department has not yet replied to a FOIL request for the water quality tests.
