Bass best prepared

The Island Now

I endorse Jeffrey Bass as our next representative on the North Hempstead Town Board and strongly urge every voter, of all political affiliations, to elect Mr. Bass.

This decision is a no brainer.

Mr. Bass has decades of urban and suburban administrative experience, and has been a successful trustee of the Village of Great Neck for several years.

His opponent’s experience is extremely limited. The Town of North Hempstead is mired in over $300 million in debt, is still saddled with a inept building department, and has increased our town taxes by 40 percent in the past few years. The present town administration is now urging the purchase of a private country club in Roslyn for over $20 million dollars – with our money.

The addition of Mr. Bass to the town board would assure the voters that at least one person on that board would voice an intelligent and experienced opinion.

At the League of Women Voter’s debate, Mr. Bass’s opponent twice stated that she was elected to the (Great Neck) Library board to bring the library issue to a referendum and she had no personal opinion on the issue either way.

A shocking statement. No, Ms. Kaplan, you shirked your responsibility as an elected representative to study the issue and report to people who live in the library district.

What you told us was that on the library board you just take up space.

You should consider resigning. Please elect Jeffrey Bass as our next representative on the town board.
