For the second straight year, the Village of Munsey Park will be the only Manhasset village to have a contested election.
Four candidates filed petitions to be placed on the ballot for two trustee positions, while two candidates are seeking election to the village justice position.
I respectfully urge residents to vote for those candidates running on the Residents for a Better Munsey Park ticket.
Incumbent Trustee Jennifer Noone was appointed as trustee after serving on the Architectural Review Board.
As trustee, she is responsible for the roads, sidewalks, street markings, street lights, garbage and leaf removal, and various other projects as they arise. After being appointed a few months ago, she immediately began working to improve the village.
Some of her accomplishments include: working with the Munsey Park Women’s Club and the SCA to install a new sidewalk outside the main entrance to Munsey Park Elementary School; initiating road repairs throughout the village to fix decaying curbs and sections of the street by using funds obtained by the state; and repairing street markings in the Village that had not been remarked in over a decade. Jennifer’s talents will be invaluable in the upcoming months, as the village will earmark a significant portion of its next budget for road repair to address the infrastructure problem we are faced within the village.
Further, she will renegotiate our contract with Meadow Carting, our garbage removal company. Jennifer practiced corporate law before deciding to stay home with her children. She received a B.S. in finance from Villanova University and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
John Lippman is running for the other open trustee position. He is a very active member of the community. He currently serves on the billage’s Architectural Review Board and the Manhasset Board of Education’s Citizens Advisory Committee for Finance.
Further, he served Munsey Park as the resident’s liaison to the Village and the Manhasset Lakeville Water District. He was instrumental in negotiating with the water district to take the radio tower down.
Professionally, he works in commercial real estate finance focusing on structured debt and workouts. Academically, he is an assistant adjunct professor in the master’s degree program at NYU’s Schack Institute of Real Estate, where he also serves on the advisory board’s executive committee. He holds an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a BA, cum laude, from American University’s School of Public Affairs.
His experience provides a valuable perspective in dealing with the types of critical land use issues that face the village today and will provide necessary expertise as negotiations with the MLWD regarding their proposal for a new water tower will commence in the coming months.
Incumbent, John Turano has practiced law for the past forty five years. For the past 10, he has served our residents as the Munsey Park Village Justice. Prior to that he was an Assistant district attorney, a deputy town attorney for the Town of North Hempstead, and served as the Prosecuting attorney for the Villages of Lake Success and New Hyde Park.
This background has given John the experience and temperament to best serve the people of Munsey Park as their Village Justice.
Recently, John streamlined the court processes to make it easier for working people to attend. He combined our arraignments, conferences and trials into one evening session, instead of several daytime sessions, and has arranged to allow defendants to pay fines by credit card. I am very proud of our court and its Village Justice.
For all of the reasons stated above, I encourage you to elect the Residents for a Better Munsey Park team, Jennifer Noone, John Lippman, and John Turano, on March 18, 2014.
Voting will take place at Munsey Park’s Village Hall at 1777 Northern Blvd.
