Arts League series to feature historian

The Island Now

The Art League of Long Island is presenting a series of three lectures conducted by curator and art historian Franklin Hill Perrell in the League’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery between June and November.  As former chief curator at the Nassau County Museum of Art with a finely tuned background in art history and contemporary art, Perrell’s lectures are known for their witty and incisive observations.

The first of the series, Art in the Park:  The Sculptures of Central Park takes place on Friday, June 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.  Perrell takes you on a magical armchair journey to discover the park’s popular statuary and hidden gems – all from a unique perspective.

The second of the series, Manet’s Paris, takes place on Friday, Sept. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.  Perrell delves into the life and times of French artist Edouard Manet, his masterful paintings, and why he was such a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism.

The last of the series, Long Island Masters: Artists in our Midst, will be on Friday, Nov. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Perrell explores Long Island’s strong presence in the art world by looking at the works from famous artists like Jackson Pollock and April Gornik to artists with ties to the Art League of Long Island.

The fee for each individual lecture is $25 per person.  For those who register for all three lectures the fee is $60 per person. Reservations are required. Register online at www.artleagueliregistration.org or call Bobbie Janowitz at (631) 462-5400, ext. 227.

Perrell is co-founder of Artful Circle (www.artfulcircle.com), providing the visual arts community services such as art gallery and museum tours, lectures, consulting, and curatorial services.  The lecture series is sponsored by Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.  The Art League of Long Island is a not-for-profit organization serving the community since 1955.   The Art League center is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills.
