Art league member’s gallery to host exhibit

The Island Now

“Reflections of Our Own Essence,” a solo exhibition of photographer Asia Lee’s works, will be on display in the Art League of Long Island’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery August 3 through August 18. Over the past twenty years of her life as a professional photographer, Lee has photographed prominent personalities such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Joe Torre and President George Bush, but her true passion is capturing the beauty of the natural world.

Lee, who was born in the province of Cheju, Korea, on an island known as a center for shamanism and the presence of spirits, has a strong belief in the healing power of images. The high quality photos in this exhibition are 60” or larger and focus on such serene moments as snow falling gently on a tree, marsh grasses blowing in the wind, sea water flowing over well-worn rocks, and a shoreline softened by an autumn mist. Now living in Dix Hills, the artist took many of these photographs along the shores of Long Island Sound at Sunken Meadow and Crab Meadow parks.

Lee devotes much of her time to charitable work, and while participating in a medical mission to Nigeria a year ago, learned of the healing powers of the holistic practice of Reiki. She has since gained Reiki certification herself and seeks to merge its therapeutic effect with her photography. This exhibition is her way of sharing her epiphany with others.

The gallery is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a reception will take place Friday, August 9, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The gallery is open weekends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge. The Art League of Long Island’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills.
