Adelphi teams excel on, off field during fall semester

The Island Now

In addition to success on the field this past fall semester, Adelphi University also excelled inside the classroom as all 23 athletic programs achieved higher than 3.0 grade point averages.

As an overall department, the student-athlete population combined for a 3.367 GPA that included 20 individuals recording perfect 4.0 GPAs. The softball team, the reigning NCAA East Region Champions, wound up with the highest GPA out of the 23 programs behind a 3.702 mark.

The department had 76 percent of its student-athlete body achieve above a 3.0 GPA, the highest percentage in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Those 266 individuals all earned recognition on the NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, released late last week, for the fall semester.

Included among those individuals is two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American Taylor Groth. Groth joined former head coach and student-athlete Chris Armas (‘94) as the only two-time selections in Adelphi history with her recognition in November. Additionally, John Stojcevski of the men’s soccer team garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District honors to join Groth in highlighting individual honors during the fall semester.

Four teams played in the NCAA Tournament this past fall while four teams won NE-10 regular season titles and three teams brought home NE-10 Championship titles to highlight athletics success. Furthermore, 25 individuals garnered All-Conference honors with 11 major NE-10 awards being earned among the competing fall programs.
