American alternative rock band Blue October visits The Space Friday on the second leg of “The Quiet Mind” tour. Originally from Houston, TX, the band was formed in 1995 and currently consists of Justin Furstenfeld, Jeremy Furstenfeld, Ryan Delahoussaye, C.B. Hudson and Matt Noveskey and are touring in support of their latest release, entitled “Sway,” their seventh full-length album.

Legendary foul-mouthed pianist John Valby brings his unique muscial stylings to Levittown for the early show Saturday night at Governor’s Comedy Club. Known as “Dr. Dirty,” Valby has recorded dozens of CDs, using an old-time piano while crooning comedic, obscene parodies of classic songs, as well as original compositions that would make even Lenny Bruce blush.

The No. 1 ranked Adelphi University men’s team host’s cross-island rivals LIU-Post  at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at Motamed Field in the NCAA Division II semifinals. The Panthers are currently 17-1 on the season, the most regular season wins in the program’s history and boast a roster chock full of homegrown talent. The LIU-Post Pioneers are 10-5 heading into the match-up and are ranked No. 7 in the nation.

Many would label her life as “unremarkable.” For more than three decades, Luzie Hatch, a German Jewish refugee from Berlin, who lived alone, took the subway from her Queens studio apartment to AJC headquarters in Manhattan where she worked as an administrative assistant. The chance discovery of her WW II-era correspondence by an estate executor revealed that Luzie Hatch’s life was far from “unremarkable.” This rare and heartrending correspondence is the basis of Exit Berlin is authored by Charlotte Bonelli, director of the AJC Archives. This exhibit will come to life and transport you back to a critical time in history.
